First Nine Weeks
Unit 1.1 Realistic Fiction /Literacy Routines
Students will practice foundational skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking as well as structured routines and behaviors of the classroom while exploring the genre of realistic
fiction and engaging in a problem solving process.
Unit 1.2 Description Students will practice foundational skills in reading, writing,
listening and speaking while conducting a genre study of descriptive text and exploring the concept of work.
Unit 1.3 Classification Students will practice foundational skills in reading, writing,
listening and speaking while exploring the genre of classification and engaging in research.
Second Nine Weeks
Unit 2.1 Fairytale Students will practice foundational skills in reading, writing,
listening and speaking while exploring the genre of fairytale.
Unit 2.2 Historical Fiction Students will practice foundational skills in reading, writing,
listening and speaking while conducting a genre study of historical fiction.
Unit 2.3 Comparison Students will practice foundational skills in reading, writing,
listening and speaking while exploring the genre of comparison.
Third Nine Weeks
Unit 3.1 Fantasy Students will practice foundational skills in reading, writing,
listening and speaking while exploring the genre of fantasy.
Unit 3.2 Folktale Students will practice foundational skills in reading, writing,
listening and speaking while conducting a genre.
Unit 3.3 Literary Nonfiction Students will practice foundational skills in reading, writing,
listening and speaking while exploring the genre of literary nonfiction.
Fourth Nine Weeks
Unit 4.1 Fable Students will practice foundational skills in reading, writing,
listening and speaking while exploring the genre of fable.
Unit 4.2 Informational Fiction Students will practice foundational skills in reading, writing,
listening and speaking while conducting a genre study of informational fiction.
Unit 4.3 Fantasy Adventure Students will practice foundational skills in reading, writing,
listening and speaking while exploring the genre of fantasy adventure.
